Fetal pain bill on hold

A South Dakota state senator decides not to turn in a bill that would have ban abortions after the 20th week of gestation.
District 33 State Senator Phil Jensen says evidence show that fetuses can feel pain after that point, making abortions inhumane.  Senator Jensen told KOTA Territory News that it wasn't the right year for the bill, stating that certain parts of the bill needed to be re-worked, including a segment that would have made an exception in the case of a medical emergency.
There are two other abortion related bills in the legislature that lawmakers will discuss this year.
House Bill 1236 would ensure that no physician has a legal duty to perform an abortion.  House Bill 1237 would make holidays and weekends exempt from the 72 hour waiting period between an abortion consultation and the procedure.
