A man arrested in connection with the shooting death of another man at a Rapid City motel parking lot has been formally charged.
A preliminary hearing scheduled Tuesday for 30-year-old Charles Birds Head was dismissed after a grand jury handed down a six-charge indictment, including First-Degree Manslaughter.
Birds Head is accused of killing Eustacio Murrufo on Jan. 7 at the South Dakota Rose Inn.
During their investigation, police also uncovered evidence that links Birds Head to a Fourth-Degree Rape or Statutory Rape and providing a controlled substance to a minor. Those charges were included in the grand jury indictment.
Birds Head remains in custody at the Pennington County Jail with no bond.
While he has been assigned to Judge Wally Eklund's court, no arraignment date has been set.
