So-called "school sentinel" bill advances in Pierre

Rep. Scott Craig (R-District 33) - Rep. Scott Craig (R-District 33) -

Despite two efforts to scuttle the so-called school sentinel bill, the state House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon passed it on to the Senate for debate.
House Bill 1087 gives school districts the authority to arm teachers and other staff or bring in armed volunteers.

Rep. Scott Craig (R-District 33), the bill's sponsor, continued to recite his position that gun-free zones are not working.

Opponents floated two amendments that would have required the bill to get a two-thirds majority to pass.  In the end, two-thirds of the House voted down those amendments.

The final vote was 42-27 to move the bill forward.
