Sheridan shoppers were in for a terrifying surprise earlier this week.
What looked like a gun was pointed from a car window at several people walking through the downtown shopping area Tuesday afternoon.
The gun turned out to be an Airsoft gun made to resemble an actual firearm.
Sheridan Police caught the five teenage boys and say this goes well beyond any juvenile mischief common to the area.
No one was hurt, but police warn that a prank like this could escalate into a tragedy.
"It's not hard to imagine what could have happened had that been pointed at an officer, been pointed at someone else that didn't know that it was a toy," said Detective Lieutenant Chris Dahmke.
The five boys, aged 14 to 16, were charged with breach of peace and released to their parents.
