SD population experiences steady growth

Newly released statistics show South Dakota's population continues to grow - faster than the national average.
According to the Black Hills Knowledge Network, the state's population has grown by 2.4% in the past two years, compared to a national 1.7% national growth rate.

Organization staff say that may be due to the influx of oil patch workers. There has also been a decline in the poverty rate as national levels continue to rise.
"One of our target audiences for the Black Hills Knowledge Network is local and state government. So we're really trying to help them give the back-story so they are well informed and they know what kind of policies need to be put in place and what kind of policies need to be made," said Jessica Boyd, Associate Project Coordinator.
South Dakota's current population stands at 833,354.
