Technology Expo promotes energy efficiency

The Black Hills continues to thrive as an energy hub in the nation, made unique by its diverse natural resources.
At the 2013 Electro Technology Expo Thursday, hundreds of contractors, businesses and manufactures gathered to brush up on the latest energy efficient technologies and practices.

From heating and cooling systems, insulation, and even LED lighting, the focus was on how technology and behavioral changes can lead to big savings for consumers and corporations.
"If you take a look at a house built in the 1940's or 50s with no remodeling, the energy savings can be astronomical," said Michael McKibben, regional sales manager with Flir Thermal Imaging Systems.
"Our contractors are always looking to build a more efficient home, heating and cooling is the highest user," said Jim Kent with Black Hills Power.
Experts say LED lights for example, will use 75% less energy than a traditional incandescent bulb and lasts at least 6 times longer.
