Despite the cold Saturday, it was one of KOTA Territory's first chances to get out and enjoy a decent snowfall.
And that's exactly what people in Rapid City did.
Kids young and old hit the slopes behind the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, diving onto sleds and skidding into the parking lot.
The temperature dipped low with a biting wind, and the sun refused to peek out from behind the clouds, but that didn't stop kids from having their fun doing what they love most in the snow.
"Because you go fast down the hill," said Marissa Nowicki, 13, explaining why she likes sledding to most. "But we got hurt down there a couple times."
"On the curve, you get some air," added 12-year-old Alex Webb, Nowicki's sledding partner.
And it's a good thing they got out when they did. There were already a couple bare spots where the snow had blown away.
