No death penalty sought for Hot Springs man

Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty for a Hot Springs man accused of killing his mother.

26-year old Matthew Tornquist will stand trial for the murder of his mother, Catherine Tornquist. The jury trial will begin May 14th. While he is charged with first degree murder and an alternative count of second degree murder, Custer County prosecutor Matt Brown says the state will not pursue a death sentence.

If convicted on either murder charge, Tornquist will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Catherine Tornquist's body still hasn't been found.
