Autopsy: homicide victim died from gunshot wound to chest

Preliminary autopsy results reveal that the victim of Monday's fatal shooting at a Rapid City motel died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Toxicology results are still pending for 33-year-old Eustacio Marrufo. Marrufo was found dead in the parking lot of the South Dakota Rose Inn on East Boulevard North.

Police believe this was an isolated incident, and that Marrufo and the shooter were acquaintances.

Marrufo's family says he moved back to Rapid City in 2007 from Kansas. They say the father of one struggled with drugs in the past. His funeral may take place as early as this weekend in Allen, South Dakota.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact police at 394-4134, or send an anonymous tip by texting ‘RCPD' and the information to 847411. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at
