Press Release from Rapid City Police Department:

The victim in last night's shooting has been identified as Eustacio Marrufo, age 33.  He was recently known to be living in Rapid City and in Kansas.

At 7:10 p.m. on Jan. 7, police were called to the South Dakota Rose Inn at 212 East Blvd North for a report of shots fired. Marrufo was found in the parking lot, where he was pronounced dead.

Police believe this was an isolated incident, and that Marrufo and the shooter were acquaintances. An autopsy is scheduled for later today, and detectives from the Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact police at 394-4134, or send an anonymous tip by texting ‘RCPD' and the information to 847411. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at www.rcgov.org/Police/crimeprevention.html.

Original Story:

Rapid City police officers and Pennington County sheriff deputies were sent to the South Dakota Rose Inn motel on East Boulevard at 7:10 p.m. Monday for a shooting.

Police captain Doug Thrash has confirmed the death of a man in the motel's parking lot. The victim died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

Thrash says patrol officers are searching the area for possible clues. The police captain says the victim's age, ethnicity, and identity are unknown at this time.

"We don't know who it is," said Captain Thrash. "We haven't checked him for I.D. yet. We're in the process of getting evidence out here to start working on the crime scene so we don't mess up any evidence."

Police officers and sheriff's deputies don't have any suspects at this time.

If you have any information, you are urged to call police at (605) 394–4131.
