Early release denied for student accused of making threats

Representatives from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology appeared in court Monday to make sure a student who issued a terroristic threat on campus doesn't get an early release.
Boyce Way, 19, of Mitchell said he was stressed out financially and academically when he left a threatening note on campus last April.

Way's attorney had filed a motion to have his 180 day sentence shortened so Way could get out by Christmas.

Judge Janine Kern denied the request, taking into consideration strong objections from faculty at the School of Mines.
Way will also serve five years probation upon his release, and will not be allowed into any state learning institution for a period of six years.
