Rapid City man leads police on high speed chase

No clear motive has emerged about what caused a man to lead Box Elder police on a high speed chase Thursday night.
Police say Donald Belile, 29, failed to stop his 1997 Volkswagen Jetta after being flagged down by officers for a broken tail light. He fled the scene going south on Radar Hill road in Box Elder, and officers pursued with speeds close to 100 miles per hour.

The car was found abandoned a short time later, and Belile was apprehended nearby and shortly after confessed.

Belile is charged with aggravated eluding of a law enforcement officer, eluding a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, failure to stop at signal of law enforcement, stop sign violation, improper turn, misdemeanor speeding and lane driving.
Police say a report of a hijacked plane received around the same time is related to the incident. Rapid city police are investigating.
