Rapid City Legal and Finance Committee members had decided to ask Attorney General Marty Jackley for his opinion on COMPASS meetings, but committee members voted Wednesday to delay that request.
There has been a lot of controversy regarding holding either open or closed COMPASS meetings.
Alderman Bonnie Petersen says the closed meetings are due process protocol, but Mayor Sam Kooiker says due process should only apply to city employees not elected officials.
Petersen says she and the mayor can compromise. "I don't think it will take us to the last meeting in February, I hope to have something probably on the next legal and finance [committee meeting]," said Petersen.
"I agree that there are some compromises that could be made with compass, but I still think we need an opinion from the A.G. regardless of where those compromises and those changes are made with compass," said Alderman Steve Laurenti.
The committee agreed to delay the request until their last meeting in February.
