Flags at half staff Wed. for Supreme Court Justice Frank Henderson

Gov. Dennis Daugaard has ordered flags lowered to half-staff at the State Capitol on two days this week for former state Rep. Burdette Solum and former state Supreme Court Justice Frank "Rudy" Henderson.

Flags at the Capitol will fly at half-staff on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in honor of Justice Henderson, 84, who passed away Dec. 28, 2012, at the Sheridan, Wyo., Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Frank "Rudy" Henderson was an associate justice of the South Dakota Supreme Court from 1979 -1994.  Prior to that service, he was a state circuit judge in the Seventh Circuit from 1975 - 1979.  Henderson also served in the South Dakota Senate, representing Rapid City, from 1965 -1966 and 1969 -1970, and he was a candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor in 1970.  Henderson was a veteran of the United States Army, and earned a Bronze Star for his service in the Korean War.

Solum, who passed away  Dec. 28, 2012, at the age of 85.

Solum served nine years in the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing his native Watertown.  After serving a single term from 1991-1992, Solum returned to the House to fill a vacancy in 1998, serving until 2004.  Solum was a 21-year veteran of the South Dakota National Guard, and his unit was activated during the Korean War.
