South Dakota homeowners could expect to see their natural gas rates increase after the New Year.
Montana–Dakota Utilities is awaiting approval from the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission before it can go ahead with the 3.3% increase. The average increase for a residential customer would be $3 a month, which is an annual increase of 6%. MDU representatives say they are requesting the increase to recover the cost of increased investment in natural gas facilities.
But the opposite will happen for East River customers. Those residents will see a decrease of $1.10 per month or an annual decrease of 2.6%.
Montana–Dakota Utilities' last natural gas rate increase for Black Hills customers was 1.4% in 2004.
