"Better safe than sorry" is the approach one local hotel is taking in preparation for their New Year's Eve event.
Thursday afternoon the Alex Johnson Hotel gave a test run to the ball they plan to drop New Year's Eve at midnight to help ring in the New Year.
The ball drop is just part of the events going on downtown. This is the 4th year the Alex has hosted the dropping of the ball at midnight.
Alex Johnson Hotel General Manager Wade Lampert says the ball drop from Times Square is what inspired them to bring it to Rapid City. "We want to replicate it and do our own Midwest flare on it & get the local community excited about New Year's and give them a central location to go to."
Other downtown New Year's events include a fireworks display and entertainment at Main Street Square.
