Police investigate potential threat at Rapid City school

The Rapid City Police Department, Pennington County Sheriff's Office, and Rapid City School officials are working together to investigate a potential threat of school violence.  The threat was received over the weekend.

Since then, a team of detectives from the RCPD and PCSO have been aggressively investigating all leads. Police presence can be seen at every Rapid City school this week.

According to Marty Graves with the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, they've interviewed students and believe the threat is likely a rumor stemming from comments on the internet.

A news release from the RCPD says that school safety continues to be a top priority for law enforcement and school officials.  Law enforcement will continue actively pursuing this investigation, although the information has not been substantiated at this time.
Anyone with information that may be useful to the investigation is urged to contact law enforcement at 394-4131.
