Gun sales stay steady in KOTA Territory

Since the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut there has been some outcry for stricter gun laws. So have South Dakotan's been stocking up on their favorite rifles and pistols in fear of new regulations? One KOTA Territory gun store says "not yet."

At Fair Deal Pawn and Gun in Rapid City gun sales may have seen the regular holiday increase, but manager Dan Higelmeier says there has been no dramatic rise. He says he does hear comments from customers who are worried about changing gun laws, but he doesn't think sales will increase until those laws are actually changed. "People are concerned about it, but I hesitate to use the word panic at this point, panic shopping or anything like that because I just don't think people are going to do it until they find out what the government's planning," said Higelmeier.

He says when gun laws were increased in the past they usually restricted future sales of certain weapons, meaning the ones that were already on the shelves were grand fathered in.
