Santa visits pediatric ward at hospital

Posted:

Children who have to spend the holidays in the hospital got a bit of good cheer Monday from a very special visitor.

Old Saint Nick took a break from his busy schedule to visit toddlers in the Pediatrics unit at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Each child received a teddy bear and present provided by the hospital's Santa Fund.  Most of the kids, currently staying in the unit, aren't older than three.  While they may be too young to understand who Santa is, they certainly enjoyed the presents, particularly the cuddly stuffed animals.

"It means a lot because we haven't had a chance to do it yet," Kelly Wellman, the mother of a sick toddler, said.

Hospital administrators say gift giving in the Pediatric ward happens year round, with many donations coming from the Children's Miracle Network.
