Rapid City's legal and finance committee says it's time to correct a six figure mistake to a local non-profit.
The committee approved recommending a $100,000 payment to Working Against Violence Inc, a group that assists domestic abuse victims.
The city mistakenly failed to send a promised $25,000 per year from 2005 to 2008 to WAVI.
Police Chief Steve Allender says programs like WAVI provide an essential service to the area.
"That type of service being provided to those victims has, in my professional opinion, reduced the number of domestic violence homicides, not only in our community, but every community throughout the country," said Allender.
The city council is expected to approve the payment at its Monday meeting.
