Design-build Team of Straub Construction and C.W. Driver Work Begin Construction Phase of Multiple Building Campus on MCB Camp Pendleton.

The joint venture design-build team of Straub Construction and C.W. Driver (Straub-Driver JV) and architectural firms of RJC Architects, Inc. and Gensler, along with representatives from the Department of the Navy and Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Pendleton, broke ground November 20, 2012 at the new P-1014 Truck Company Operations Complex site in the 33 Area of MCB Camp Pendleton.
This design-build project constructs a new Truck Company Operations Complex for 224 personnel with 200 tactical vehicles. This military construction project is comprised of a two-story company headquarters, a warehouse with roll up doors, an armory, a Single-Marine facility, a dispatch, a dining facility, and a two-level parking structure which will provide 250 parking spaces.The project also provides renovations and addition of a new maintenance bay to the existing Vehicle Maintenance Facility, as well as demolition of existing buildings throughout the 33 Area.
This campus-style project features pedestrian and bicycle paths, basketball and volleyball courts, outdoor picnic areas, and landscaping. Renewable solar photovoltaic systems will be provided in part with sustainable design goals. Each building within the project will be designed and constructed for certification of a U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating. The $46.6 million project is slated for completion in October of 2013.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on site and included LTJG Hernandez who served as Event Master of Ceremonies. Speakers included: CDR Pitman, Public Works Officer, MCB Camp Pendleton; Ms. Jessica Lujick, Supervisory General Engineer for Resident Officer In Charge of Construction, MCB Camp Pendleton; and Mr. Richard Freeark, Vice President of Operations, Straub-Driver Joint Venture. Ground Breakers included: CDR Pitman, Jessica Lujick, Mr. Richard Freeark, and Major Tadena.
