City Council determines Cole was fired with just cause

Posted:

The Rapid City Council voted that a terminated city employee will not receive severance pay.

The Council met for less than an hour behind closed doors Tuesday night to discuss the June termination of Former Parks and Recreation Director Jerry Cole.

Councilman Ron Sasso says while most of the research and discussion was done at the last executive session; Tuesday night's session focused mainly on the vote.

With a 6-3 vote the council determined Cole was fired with just cause and as a result he will not receive a severance package.

The Special City Council meeting was originally requested by Cole to determine if he was terminated with cause per the terms of the City's severance policy. Cole had been with the city for more than eight years.
