PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he will recommend increases in state aid to schools and payments to Medicaid providers when he unveils his proposed state budget next week.
During an appearance on KCCR Radio, the governor also says he will propose that state employees get a pay raise next year.
Daugaard says the state will get some one-time money next year because some banks relocated to South Dakota and the state changed its unclaimed property laws.
Banks used to have to turn over unclaimed deposits to the state after five years, but a new law changed that to just three years. That means the state will get a one-time jump in payments from banks next year.
The extra one-time money could go to education, Medicaid and other programs.
