Lawmakers say one-time money an issue in SD budget

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ South Dakota legislative leaders say the use of one-time revenue will be a key issue in crafting the next state budget.

Five Republican legislative leaders met Monday with Republican Gov. Dennis Daugaard to discuss budget issues.

The lawmakers declined to reveal details of the governor's proposed state budget, which he will present to the Legislature next week.

But Senate Republican Leader Russell Olson of Wentworth says the use of one-time money will be a dominant issue in the legislative session that begins in January. He says school districts and Medicaid providers prefer dedicated long-term funding, but they may be happy to get funding that is not built into ongoing budgets for future years.

One-time money comes from reserves and other sources not expected to be available year after year.
