Small Business Saturday attempts to get shoppers to shop local

Sales, bargains, and door busters, the holiday shopping season is underway.
Black Friday was the major kick off to the shopping season but the sales can be found throughout most of the weekend.

And not just at the bigger stores but small mom and pop stores as well.

Small Business Saturday is an annual nation wide push to promote small businesses and all they have to offer customers during the holiday shopping season.

Bella Boutique is one of the stores participating in the event.

Owner Stephanie Seljeskog says the event hasn't brought in extra customers for them. However during the holiday season they don't try to compete with the larger stores.
"If you're looking for more of a boutique experience you'll come down here, whether you're going to go shopping at the bigger stores or not," says Seljeskog.
"I like to come downtown shopping because it's a more relaxed atmosphere and the boutiques offer a wider selection of clothing where you can't get it in the malls," says Amanda Nielsen of Rapid City.
Seljeskog says small shops offer larger selections of specialty items especially clothes, compared to the box stores.
