Main Street Square's ice skating rink will close for three days due to high temperatures.
The rink opened on Saturday, Nov. 17 for the season, and was closed for a few hours both Saturday and Sunday due to high temperatures.
Main Street Square Executive Director Megan Karbowski said the opening weekend was a success. "Rapid City has been watching us build the rink for the last week, and couldn't wait for it to open," she said. "We are glad we could open the rink for the time that we did. We had more than 300 ice skaters on the opening weekend."
The rink will reopen on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. weather permitting.
"Before or after that Thanksgiving meal, visit Main Street Square for some exercise and quality family time," Karbowski said.
The ice skating rink is available for open skate Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on Sunday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. After Jan. 1, staff may add shinny, an informal game of hockey, to the schedule. The schedule will be posted to Main Street Square's website.
The ice will be closed to the public on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., due to a figure skating performance during the Holiday Celebration.
