Lawrence County to use $120,000 on Pine Beetle fight

Lawrence County has decided to continue fighting the pine beetle.

Despite South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard indicating a cap has been met for state funding to combat the pine beetle infestation, Lawrence County commissioners have voted to spend $120,000 to continue the fight.

The funding will come from interest earned through its mine severance tax fund.

Lawrence County attorney Bruce Outka says that the $120,000 will primarily pay for expenses incurred to date.
