According to College Parents of America, about 80% of college students will change their major at least once. So Wednesday KOTA Territory high school students previewed what some fields of study are like.
High school students from Sturgis, Belle Fourche, Spearfish, and Rapid City explored the possibility of a career in math, science, technology and business.
The Lab Coats and Business Entrepreneurship event allows students to meet professionals, ask questions, and find opportunities.
Keynote speaker Melanie Toney says she wants to inspire students to face their fears when it comes to college and careers. "My message is really that it's worth all of that hard work that the opportunities that you have afterwards are well beyond any kind of struggle or turmoil that you have," said Toney.
"Whether they choose to go to a four year institution or a two year, we definitely need to prepare them and so we're giving them some opportunities," said South Dakota CEO Director Helen Merriman.
This is the first year Black Hills state has held this program.
