U.S. Senator John Thune has retained his position as a top party leader.
Thune was re–elected as the Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference by his fellow republican senators. Thune officially assumed the position in January of 2012.
It's the number three leadership position for senate republicans and is tasked with spearheading messaging efforts for the conference. Thune says it gives him a voice in the decisions that are made by the Republican Conference.
"And hopefully it will give me the ability to better shape and influence the policy and the process. All the things that are involved with trying to get policies in place that hopefully will put us on a better path and a better future for our children and our grandchildren," said Thune.
U.S. Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming was also reelected to serve as Chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee. Barrasso has served as Policy Chairman since January 2012.
