A Rapid City Wal-Mart store is giving back to local organizations that make a difference in South Dakota.
The recently renovated N. Lacrosse Street Wal-Mart donated a combined total of $150,000 to:
– Teach For America
– the Black Hills chapter of the American Red Cross
– Volunteers of America
– and junior achievement.
For store manager Mark Haberman the ability to hand over these large donations is one of the biggest perks of his job.
"It's probably one of the favorite parts of the job for me. To be able to shake the hand of an organization and say we're here to support you and we're here to help and thank you for what you do," said Haberman.
The Red Cross will use its $39,000 check to purchase shelf stable food and generators for nine disaster trailers pre–positioned across western South Dakota.
Teach For America will use its $50,000 donation to double in size over the next three years.
