New Oglala Sioux Tribe President elected


Although the results are still unofficial until next week, it appears there is new leadership on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
Brian Brewer, a former educator and organizer of the Lakota National Invitational tournament won the title of President with 2,266 votes.

Incumbent John Yellow Bird Steele followed closely behind with 2,128 votes. The two were separated by just 138 votes.

Thomas Poor Bear won the title of vice president with 2,461 votes. Representatives from nine districts were also elected.

Election office officials say the final results will be released by November 14th.

According to the Oglala Sioux Tribe's website, 4,431 people voted in the election. Just under 300 votes were challenged.
