After a decade of devotion, the Executive Director of the Journey Museum in Rapid City is stepping down.
Raymond Summers has been at the helm for more than ten years. He is credited for making the museum into what it is today.
Reid Riner, Executive Director with the Minnilusa Pioneer Association said Summers was key to increasing visitation numbers, expanding museum activities, and initiating South Dakota's only space program.
"We'll miss Ray, but at least he's not moving away. We'll be able to see him. I'm sure he'll attend museum functions, he will still be in the community, we'll be able to see him. It'll be a little bittersweet those last few days," Riner said.
Riner said museum administrators are already looking for a replacement, someone they hope will continue Summers work and take the museum to the next level.
