Another Rapid City neighborhood gets "firewise" designation

Posted:

A second neighborhood in Rapid City is being recognized for it's commitment to becoming Firewise.

The Woodridge Community on Rapid City's south side is now one of six communities in the state to receive the award.

The purpose of the program is to reduce the loss of lives and property from wildfire through thinning of trees and removal of fuels.

The designation not only aids the people who live at Woodridge.

"It's not just the residents here, this work will protect the entire city of Rapid City ultimately because it can be impacted by a fire in this area," said Andrew Tate, Urban Interface Specialist with South Dakota Wildland Fire.

Carriage Hills is the next community working toward being Firewise.
