Prosecutors consider death penalty for Hot Springs man

A Hot Springs man charged with the murder of his missing mother may face the death penalty.
Custer county prosecutors say they're still considering whether or not to seek the death penalty against Matthew Tornquist, 26.

Tornquist is charged with first degree murder, second degree murder as an alternative and grand theft.

Because they believe the alleged murder of his mother was profit-driven, prosecutors say the death penalty is warranted.

The case could to go trial as early as January, if a plea agreement is not reached before the next hearing date.

Tornquist will be back in court in Fall River county on December 13th.

Catherine Tornquist went missing in October of 2011.
