The Rapid City Public Works Committee is looking into solutions to eliminate some parking on Mount Rushmore Road.
The plan calls for on-street parking to be removed from Kansas City Street to Saint Patrick Street.
Public Works Director Terry Wolterstroff says a total of 78 parking are slated for elimination. However, he says the plan calls for the addition of 28 parking spots on side streets.
The cost of this portion of the project is estimated to be anywhere from $240,000 to $490,000 which would come from the Vision Fund.
"The universal agreement here is parking on Mount Rushmore Road needs to go away, but and that's the tough part, we need to do it in such a way that we're not hurting people and not taking into consideration their needs as well," said Alderman Bill Clayton.
The Rapid City Public Works Committee wants the full city council to give them at least three more months to further research the options.
