Anti-drug task force honors partners

Posted:

The mayor's anti-drug task force honored a few key community partners Tuesday.

The Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention program or ASAP has been part of the Rapid City mayor's coalition against drugs since 1995.

Tuesday, they honored ten community leaders who organizers say have gone above and beyond to bring funding to the non profit and help spread the message of prevention.

The group, which also organizes red ribbon weeks, says youth development is essential to their mission.

"[They] help young people become engaged in their community and get involved in positive things. Having their family involved and adults setting a good example as well," said Pam Teaney Thomas, President of A.S.A.P.

The South Dakota National Guard has also received four national service awards for their work with the coalition.
