A local group who helps those in need received an award Monday for all their hard work.
The American Red Cross presented a certificate of appreciation to the Black Hills Quilters.
The group of ladies donates homemade quilts for local home fire victims.
Richard Smith, Executive Director of the Black Hills Red Cross, says they have known what a difference the quilts make for the fire victims for some time.
And now it was time to thank them for the comfort they provide.
"What's great about this is when we do take over the quilts, so typically this has been a day or two after the fire, it starts that process of giving them something that's truly their own. It's not something they've had to borrow or something that's been given to them, it's something brand new that starts that recovery process for them," says Smith.
Smith says it's not just The Red Cross, it's what happens when the whole community responds to a fire.
