The legacy of a popular downtown Rapid City attraction will soon be carved in stone...literally!
Destination Rapid City hosted a presentation at the Dahl Arts Center about the upcoming carving of the granite pillars at Main Street Square.
Members of the Main Street Square Granite Sculpture Project explained what the project is all about, including the selection process for the five finalists.
Destination Rapid City spokesman Dan Seftner says that it's a golden opportunity for the community to see the selected artist showcase their skills, "This is arts in motion! We see a lot of art that's hung on the wall or we see things are already done. This is something that is not! It's art in motion. It's the artist working on the granite in the square so it's really about the community!"
Finalists will make a proposal before the selection committee October 31st and November 1st .
The announcement of the final artist selected will be made by mid-November, with work to begin in the early part of 2013.
