Just months after The Cambria Suites hotel opens its doors in Rapid City, a new addition breaks ground right next door.
A 97-room Mainstay Suites hotel is expected to open its doors next May.
Developers say the hotel is more economically priced and will be marketed towards vacationing families and long term travelers.
Rooms will start at around $100 a night. The hotel will also feature a pool but share most other amenities with the Cambria.
Project leaders say the Cambria has already received high rankings from travel websites. Mainstay Suites, however, will have some unique offerings.
"The rooms will be very competitively price and will have a lot of extras. Including small kitchenettes," said Brian Hagg, President of Hagg Development.
"The Rapid City area has shown an upward trend in hotel occupancy for the past eight years.and our studies show that one of the products that this area does not have is an extended stay product," said Developer Kent Hagg.
Developers say the area off exit 61 near Cabela's is expected to draw in much more economic development in the coming years.
They estimate the preliminary costs of the Mainstay Suites hotel project will to be upwards of $10 million dollars.
