SD state leaders oppose closing Hot Springs VA

Posted:

South Dakota's Congressional Delegation is opposed to the Veterans Administration proposal for the future of the VA at Hot Springs and once again they put those thoughts in writing.

U.S. Senators Tim Johnson, John Thune and Representative Kristi Noem wrote another letter to Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki Wednesday morning, opposing the VA's plan for the Black Hills Health Care System.

The letter expresses concern that veterans would no longer be able to continue to get the health care they deserve if the Hot Springs VA were to close.

The letter recognizes the challenges facing the VA, but suggests the current proposal is based on assumptions and not on the needs of area veterans.

The delegation sent a similar letter to Shinseki earlier this month expressing "frustration and disappointment" in how proposed changes to the system have progressed.
