Save haven for horses in Hot Springs needs help

Posted:

An elderly couple in KOTA Territory who've dedicated the last 13 years to helping animals, now needs a helping hand.

They must relocate dozens of rescued animals, sheds, and equipment by the end of November and time is ticking.

"We found out about five or six weeks ago, that the rental land that we're running our ministry on has been sold," said Gary and Kathy Schweigert. Them and the dozens of rescued animals at Noah's place have until November 30th to relocate.

"We do have 18 acres across the road," said Schweigert.

But much of that land and the buildings on it were destroyed in the Alabaugh Canyon fire in 2007.

"So we pretty much have to start from scratch," said Schweigert.

Meaning there is a long road of work to be done in the next five weeks.

"We still need to build about 5 sheds for the horses, we need to do some major re fencing, we need to put in a road," said Schweigert.

All so they can continue to rescue animals.

"We have 11 full sized horses, 3 miniature horses, and goats, chickens, cats..," said Schweigert.

Animals that couldn't make it without Noah's Place.

"A majority of the horses are special needs horses, they're called throw away animals, people no longer want to spend the money to take of them, so we take them in," said Schweigert.

Now the Schweigert's need help themselves. She says there is too much work for just her and her husband Gary.

"We rely on the kindness of strangers and we would really appreciate if people would be willing to come and do some of the physical labor," said Schweigert.
