RC Parks and Rec may look for more workers in '13

Rapid City's large number of parks make it easy for citizens to find a park nearby.

But with recent new park improvements like bike paths around the hills or the opening of founder's park, the job of maintaining the parks becomes increasingly important.

Currently there are 15 full time park maintenance workers and a bigger budget in 2013 could mean more full time or seasonal workers.

"Well our budget for next year or 2013 is going to be much better than it has been the last couple of years. But you have to have the staff to maintain it as well. But I feel confident that we're going to do a great job next year," said Lon Van Duesen, Rapid City's interim Parks Director.

During this summer there were 30 total maintenance employees, with 15 seasonal, part–time workers.
