Mountain lion shot in Rapid City

Posted:

For the third time this year, a mountain lion is shot after wandering into Rapid City. Game Fish and Parks Regional Supervisor Mike Kintigh says several people called police around 7:30 yesterday morning to report a lion near Jackson Boulevard and Canyon Lake Drive.

After a 45 minute search, Game and Fish staff found the lion in a tree in someone's backyard.
He was shot twice with a shotgun, fell out of the tree and ran.  Police then shot the lion two or three more times.

Kintigh says he believes the big cat was around a year and a half in age.
