East Middle School in Rapid City celebrates the South Dakota 2013 teacher of the year with an all school assembly.
Katie Anderson has been named teacher of the year this year. She teaches 8th grade science and 6th grade reading at East Middle School.
Along with the title, Anderson receives the use of a new car for one year, a technology package to use in her classroom, and $10,000.
She says she is thrilled, but couldn't have done it without the help of other teachers and her students. "There's not a lot of words to explain it but it's very exciting kind of surreal I'm so honored and so you know proud that I've gotten selected and I'm really just proud for my school and proud for my students because really they were a lot of what got me here," said Anderson.
Anderson will be a candidate for the national teacher of the year award, which will be announced in April in Washington DC.
