Volunteers converged on Rushmore Mall for a couple hours Saturday afternoon to pack meals for hungry families all over the world.
Kids Against Hunger set up tables at the mall, and volunteers of all ages filled bags with rice, soy, a vitamin-rich powder, and veggie flakes -- everything families need to make a healthy casserole.
Six meals fit into each bag at just 23 cents a meal, and the group packed up 5,000 meals in all Saturday.
Eighty percent of those will head around the world, but the other 20 percent will stay right here in KOTA Territory.
"And so they go to places like Cornerstone Rescue Mission, Church Response and the food bank. And then some of these boxes will actually go to Pine Ridge also this week," said volunteer Kreena LeLaCheur
Kids Against Hunger is a mobile operation, so if your organization wants to sponsor and pack a few meals, give them a call (contact information here), and they'll come to you.
