Senator John Thune presented one KOTA Territory veteran with several medals of honor Tuesday.
Jim Hurley fought in Vietnam more than 40 year ago, and now he is being honored and thanked for his service.
Senator John Thune presented Hurley with the Silver Star, which is the third highest military award designated for heroism in combat, the Bronze Star for heroic achievements, and the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat.
"I accept these medals and awards on the behalf of those young men who served with me, because they were excellent, excellent young men," said Hurley.
"Today was an opportunity for us as a community and as his friends and family to be able to pay tribute to him and recognize him with these medals which he earned, he deserved, and that presentation was long overdue, and I'm just honored to be able to be a part of it," said Thune.
Hurley also received several other awards for his service. About 60 members of his family and friends joined him at the ceremony, and all were very proud and honored.
