Renovations are underway at the new Suzie Cappa Arts Center at 724 St Joseph Street in Rapid City.
JoAnne Schriver, Development Director of the Black Hills Works Foundation, said they received an anonymous donation for $500,000 allowing them purchase the property.
Schriver said the donor wanted the center to be in downtown permanently. That way, the artists could sell more work due to higher foot traffic. And, be closer to the art community.
"So with this wonderful donation, we went on the hunt and found this space. Then that property owner matched that donation which was incredible," Schriver said.
Schriver said the matching donation brings totals for the project to more than a million dollars.
Renovations are expected to be complete in late January and the new arts center will be up and running by March.
