South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City has a new sculpture on display.
The piece called "Homage to the Spine" was unveiled Wednesday. It will call the school's campus home for the next year.
The 10-foot-tall sculpture, created by Italian Artist Claudio Bottero, is on loan from an anonymous donor.
Not only did Bottero use traditional joinery techniques but hand forging to create a piece of art worthy of a world class institution like SDSM&T.
"I think if you look at this sculpture, it is a world class piece of art. Not only is it incredibly aesthetic, it is so well crafted," says School of Mines Associate Professor Deborah Mitchell.
The sculpture was presented during "Nucor Days" to honor Nucor Steel's ongoing support of the University.
