In South Dakota there will be an estimated 600 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed this year alone.
And the community is invited to help fight back during National Breast Cancer awareness month.
The Mayor of Pierre, challenged other Mayors in South Dakota in raising funds to present to the American Cancer Society.
Katie Parker a breast cancer survivor and city worker was asked by Major Sam Kooiker to lead the fundraising in Rapid City, giving back to a fund that saved her life.
"The American Cancer Society provides lots of funds for research, for breast cancer and in fact one of those funds, for Digital Mammogram's, actually saved my life. So I'm a huge supporter of the American Cancer Society," says Parker.
Parker says Yankon is in the lead with more than$950 raised, she says she is confident Rapid City will pull through and exceed its goal of $1500.
