Holiday need approaching as fast as the seasons are changing

With the air cooling and days becoming shorter, the need for coats and holiday assistance is getting greater.
Monday was the first day for those who need help, to sign up for it at the Salvation Army on Cherry Avenue in Rapid City.
Major Jim Beardsley, Coordinator of the Black Hills Salvation Army, says those needing help is going up this year.
He says more than 900 families are expected to apply for help, up from 875 last season.

"Food went up 2 years ago and just never came back down, gas has been fluctuating, so you add all of that, and even those that have jobs, it still effects them. They need just a little extra in the Christmas season," says Major Beardsley.
Beardsley says last year they helped more than 1,600 in families, this year they expect that number to go over 1,800.
